We Are Pleased with Haruna Kasolo, Mayiga Declares at Bulange Event

By Mulengera Reporters

On Tuesday, NRM CEC candidate for Buganda region Haruna Kasolo drove to Bulange Mengo to officially ask for the blessing of the Kingdom whose Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga was at hand to cheerfully receive him and members of his entourage.

Accompanied by his wife Aisha Ruth Kasolo, the microfinance minister made it clear that he was here to officially ask for the endorsement of Mengo, which is the seat of Buganda Kingdom. Kasolo told the Katikkiro that, being someone who is deliberate about ensuring that Buganda issues and grievances are prioritized at the top decision-making table of Uganda, he considered it prudent to drive to Bulange and publicly notify Kabaka’s officials about the same.

He said much of his campaign messaging is deliberately focussed on how Buganda’s grievances and concerns can be given adequate attention during CEC meetings which is the highest level of decision making of the National Resistance Movement, which has been Uganda’s ruling party for the last 40 years and continues to.

Kasolo also indicated to the Katikkiro that, much as he has his own ideas, he remains open to being guided by the leadership at Mengo on what else needs to be added and included on his things to-do list. He is seeking to assume the CEC position as Buganda region NRM Chairman, a position he is competing with 6 others.

Hajji Abdul Nadduli, a Buganda Kingdom enthusiast who escorted him, made it clear that Haruna Kasolo is the best and most well-prepared cadre to become the NRM Chairman for Buganda. He contemptuously referred to Kasolo’s opponents who he said are lacking in substance and pedigree. He said the interests of Buganda region will be best articulated by Haruna Kasolo, and no one else, inside the NRM Central Executive Committee sessions.

Besides Mzee Nadduli, the Kasolo entourage also had senior ruling NRM party opinion leaders in Buganda and long-serving Musevenists namely Stephen Kabuye, the former Entebbe Mayor, and Mamerito Mugerwa who made NRM proud by holding onto the position of Kira Municipality Mayor including at the time that part of Wakiso had already become a deeply entrenched stronghold of the opposition.

The duo’s involvement signals the extent to which organic NRM influencers and opinion leaders have embraced the Haruna Kasolo caravan for the CEC position.

On his part, a clearly animated Katikkiro Mayiga (the host) made it clear that Haruna Kasolo is one leader he wasn’t ashamed of endorsing and being publicly seen with because, since becoming Kyotera County MP in 2011, his public leadership has been synonymous with inclusiveness, humility, people-centeredness, community development and respect for Mengo, Buganda Kingdom leadership and Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, his King.

He added that there was nothing wrong or controversial about publicly stating that Buganda Kingdom is proud of politically ambitious Kabaka’s subjects like Haruna Kasolo because none of the things the incoming Kyotera County MP stands for or ever says anywhere is contrary to the norms and values that Kabaka Mutebi’s leadership cherishes. That Haruna Kasolo is Buganda Kingdom’s today and for many more years to come, for as long as he remains active in the politics and leadership of this country.
