For unknown reasons, the government of President Museveni has, for the first in many months, failed to promptly pay judicial officers’ salary for the month of July.
This news website has established that several individual judicial officers are in problems with money lenders and banks and are wondering why their monthly salary, which is always on their bank accounts as of 25th of every month, has delayed reaching them this time round.
Some of the Judges have monthly obligations including outstanding loan balances which financial institutions keep deducting every end of month as soon as the salary hits the account.
Having failed to access the same as of 25th of the month, such lenders are now nervous and putting judicial under a lot of pressure. Judicial officers are wondering why the judiciary leadership has so far been reluctant to render an explanation as to why July salaries have delayed.
Away from the Judges’ delayed July pay, there are other notorious indicators to show that the GoU has lately not been doing that well financially.
For instance, access to the IFMIS payment system, through many mainstream MDAs make payments and effect financial transfers, had until not very long ago been restricted, something which raised quiet anxiety among accounting officers responsible for the different votes and entities.
