State Minister for Lands Dr. Sam Mayanja has wildly claimed that the Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has presidential ambitions and its the reason he harbors resentful sentiments against the person of President YK Museveni.
Appearing on Bukedde Fm Radio on Sunday, Dr. Mayanja asserted that Ganda nationalism and pride is lately on the increase and there is need for intelligence organizations of Uganda to acquaint themselves with why the Mayega-led Mengo is insistent on running a governance and social services infrastructure similar to the central government’s.
He fears that in some cases, the Buganda Kingdom governance and social services infrastructure has turned out to be more efficient than the one of the central government. He adds that its high time the President reduces on his descency and begins to directly confront Mengo about all this before it gets too late.
Mayanja claims that all this is deliberately purposed at portraying Mayiga as more people-centered and better leader than Gen YK Museveni. That this is the political capital Mayiga will be leveraging to popularize his ambitions for Presidency at the expense of Gen Museveni’s or whoever turns out to be his successor from the NRM camp.
Mayanja also claimed, without much corraboration, that Mayiga is actually the invisible boss behind Mathias Mpuuga’s newly re-branded and revitalized Democratic Front party. Likening the DF’s to the role the Kabaka Yekka (KY) party played in epitomizing the political ambitions of Mengo in the 1960s, Mayanja asserted it’s okay for Mayiga to shield his political ambitions the Katikkiro office at Mengo. He further hinted that, inside the DF, Mpuuga is a proxy merely warming the seat for Mayiga.
Mayanja, a self-professed hater of the leadership at Mengo, predicts that Mayiga’s ascendance to the Presidency will be bad news for the country because the Mengo clique (as he calls it) has always been selfish and resentful of a united and prosperous Uganda. That they have always advocated and worked towards a very strong political entity called Buganda at the expense of the larger Uganda.
