Anti-NUP Forces Ponder Fronting Moses Kasibante to Frustrate SG Rubongoya’s K’la Central Bid As Mubarak Munyagwa Acquires Peasants Party

By Mulengera Reporters

Led by outgoing Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko, anti-NUP actors within the opposition are determined to politically frustrate NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya. Sources reveal that they have resorted to courting former Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante who they are prepared to generously fund to make life hard for Rubongoya.

They had all along been counting on NUP Lord Councilor Moses Katabu who a few weeks ago cracked and made a deal with Rubongoya which assured him of NUP flag to become the Kampala Central Mayor replacing NRM’s Salim Uhuru. It’s calculated that, as the MP candidate for Kampala Central, Kasibante can create much more headache for Rubongoya and the entire NUP squad than Katabu would ever.

Kasibante has plenty of name-recognition and he is a wordsmith whose hilarious jokes are the type that can make an adversary like Rubongoya to laugh at himself. He can dominate especially the mainstream media publicity and thereby eclipsing Rubongoya who isn’t an eloquent Luganda speaker.

Kasibante is stubborn, provocative (likes to annoy) and fearless and can take on anyone in a debate anywhere, anytime. Consultations are ongoing as Kasibante’s final word continues to be awaited. It will be recalled that, while speaking at the DF event in Masaka last week, Nsereko vowed to use his clout as outgoing area MP to ensure that Rubongoya gets politically obliterated.

All said and done, the Kasibante bid can play effective spoiler and significantly disorganize Rubongoya who is disadvantaged by the fact that Kampala Central is largely an NRM stronghold and any slight mistake can cost any opposition candidate and deprive him or her the ultimate victory.

In a related development, the former Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa (who has no guts to face Kawempe voters again) remains determined not to sink into political oblivion. He is determined to remain relevant onto the political equation of Uganda and knowledgeable sources say that, working with a one Nambale a former DP Kampala Chairman, the streetwise Mubarak Munyagwa has acquired the National Peasant Party for which he is determined to become President with Nambale serving as the Secretary General. They are optimistic that time will come when all registered parties (even without representation in Parliament) will be entitled to accessing some government funding through the National Consultative Forum.
