Information Minister and NRM Western Region Chairman Chris Baryomunsi was one of the many special guests at Soroti Playgrounds where Capt. Mike Mukula held the belated NRM day celebrations besides formally launching his bid to seek reelection as ruling party chairman for Eastern Region.
In his speech, Baryomunsi implored the Itesots to stick to Museveni and NRM while actively shunning all his opponents as the country counts down to 2026 elections. He too is seeking reelection and the Mukula event gave him a perfect platform to ask for the vote since in NRM even regional chairpersons are voted by the whole country at the delegates conference slated for August.
At the same Saturday event, Baryomunsi also campaigned for Speaker Anita Among who is seeking to oust Rebecca Kadaga and become the 2nd National Vice Chairperson for the NRM. Baryomunsi said Anita Among was very popular among delegates in Western Uganda just like is the case with Mike Mukula.
He assured the large crowd that Mukula was the only one delegates from Western Uganda would be voting for the position of Eastern Region Chairman. He said his opponents will have to rely on votes from other regions but not Western Uganda whose delegates’ vote has already been ring-fenced for Mukula. There was an explosion of excitement as the euphoric Soroti crowd responded to the Baryomunsi pronouncement.
Mukula, who Baryomunsi praised for being very outspoken in CEC on matters of Teso, is facing Calvin Echodu who too hails from Teso. Speakers at the Saturday event implored Echodu to bow out as opposed to antagonizing Mukula at the time he needs a block vote from his cradle of Teso as he galvanizes support in other parts of Uganda.
