Miria Matembe has challenged the Balokoles who are near him to advise President Museveni to become genuine and do things that show he is being truthful in his apology to the people of Uganda for the mistakes he has made to them in the last 40 years.
Matembe says that the words of Museveni and his wife Janet Kataha won’t be enough but they must be matched with good actions and deeds.
She is proposing that Museveni begins by unconditionally releasing Kizza Besigye and Eddie Mutwe, Bobi Yanga and all the other political prisoners and proceed to apologize to their families to prove he has realized his mistakes and he is genuinely sorry.
Matembe adds that Museveni should announce that he won’t be seeking reelection in 2026 so that people don’t think he is pretending to apologize simply because he wants Ugandans’ votes in 2026.
She says that Uganda now has a clear cut Joshua in Bobi Wine to whom Museveni, who she says was Uganda’s Moses at some point in time, should hand over the leadership torch to carry on the mantle.
She warns Ugandans not to be duped and excited because the Museveni she knows is cunning and will forget about the apology and once again become ruthless after bouncing back after the 2026 elections.
That the only thing Museveni can do for the young people to stop being hostile to him is by revealing the wrongs he is apologizing for and also setting his exit date.
The new Democratic Front Party President Mathias Mpuuga says Gen Museveni should emulate his mentor Julius Nyerere of Tanzania who apologized and announced his retirement date in the same speech. Party spokesman Emmanuel Ddombo says other NRM leaders should emulate Museven and apologize because many of them have committed even worse mistakes than Museveni’s.
