Semujju Nganda says that having failed to make a good case, President Museveni now wants Court to help him get evidence against Col Kizza Besigye and other political prisoners! He was speaking at Katonga to address the Freedom Party/PFF weekly news conference on Monday. He made it clear that for 6 months since arresting Dr. Besigye and Haji Obed Lutale Kamulegeya, the Museveni regime had failed to come up with even one paragraph of evidence and they now want court to help them cover up by trying Besigye in secrecy behind closed doors. That they are fearing for the public to see how shabby and laughable their evidence against Dr. KB is.

He demanded for Besigye’s immediate release so that the political colossus from Rwakabengo in Rukungiri gets to benefit from the mandatory bail which the law provides for the benefit of whoever has been remanded for 6 months (180 days) without conviction.

In the presence of his bosses, the Freedom Party leaders like Wafula Ogutu and Wasswa Birigwa, Semujju Nganda also urged the EC to proceed and issue PFF/Freedom Party with its registration certificate as opposed to waiting for a total of 21 days, counting from Friday 16th May when the party was published in the gazette.

Nganda says the law requiring 21 days should be revised because three weeks are too many in this era of social media where those objecting to anything don’t need a whole 21 days anymore. He said that whoever has any objections to the registration of the Freedom Party should be able to bring it forward (so that the necessary clarification can be given) without waiting for 21 days.

“The two possible areas for objection are the party being national in character and being recommended for registration by people from all parts of the country and the other is if the party’s constitution complies with the national one and will promote internal democracy. Those are the major grounds for objection. Some people might become petty and trivial on colors of the party and such other small things; otherwise we are compliant as PFF and the EC should let us be,” Semujju Nganda elaborated.

He also encouraged Ugandans to turn up at Parliament on Tuesday 20th May in large numbers in order to be able to witness and see how their MPs (if any) betray Ugandans and posterity by voting yes to Gen Museveni’s law seeking to continue trying civilians and non-soldiers in the military martial courts.

He said he will be leading thousands of his own Kira voters to come to parliament and witness him defend their rights (during the Tuesday consequential vote) never to be subjected to the court martial contrary to what the Supreme Court directed in its land mark ruling of earlier this year.
