Following the successful graduation of its first cohort earlier this year, Equity Bank Uganda is preparing to welcome 100 new scholars into the Equity Leaders Program (ELP) 2025 intake.
Made up of the top-performing boy and girl from each district where the Bank has a branch, this year’s class will report on Sunday, May 4th, for a week-long leadership bootcamp and induction at African Bible University, Lubowa.
The training, which runs until May 10th, will focus on soft skills, leadership grooming, and shifting the scholars’ mindset from dependency to responsibility.
As the proverb goes, “A young tree can be trained to grow straight,” and through this program, the Bank hopes to shape a new generation of solution-minded leaders ready to face the Africa’s problems.
The ELP was launched in Uganda in 2022 and has since supported over 300 scholars. Earlier this year, 29 students from the first cohort graduated, with many gaining valuable internship experience at Equity Bank and others pursuing careers in various sectors.
A few have even secured places at world-class universities abroad, proof that when you “light a candle, you don’t lose your flame by lighting others.”
After the induction, the 2025 scholars will proceed to a paid internship at Equity Bank for 3 to 6 months, where they will earn a monthly salary while receiving mentorship and on-the-job training in various departments.
With footprints most East African countries, the ELP aims to create a connected generation of African leaders, just as an old saying goes, “One finger cannot kill a lice,” it takes unity, mentorship, and opportunity to build leaders who will change Africa for the better.
