Lydia Wanyoto has been the Chairperson for NRM Women League since the year 2015 when she replaced Jacqueline Mbabazi whose husband Amama had bitterly fallen out with Gen YK Museveni over the life presidency project.
But Wanyoto, who brags of having several other high level government deployments such as sitting on NPA, now has to play a defensive game politically speaking.
Her CEC position is now under attack with two effective NRM mobilisers signaling they want the pie too.
These are the controversial Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju and Faridah Kiboowa, who has been the Chairperson for National Women’s Council for an eternity.
Kiboowa has had issues with Wanyoto for some good time and they onetime clashed in State House Entebbe.
Gen Museveni was meeting the women leaders ahead of the International Women’s Day and they both led delegations to the meeting.
While there, women from Kiboowa’s NWC accused Wanyoto’s Women’s League of not adequately representing their views. Yet those from Wanyoto’s group also registered their grievances against Kiboowa’s NWC.
The two ladies competed to show who was more influential and who had played a greater role in securing that meeting in State House from where Gen Museveni gave each of the delegations’ members Shs5m as transport refund.
Kiboowa, who is back with a fresh mandate to head NWC and she is a blue-eyed girl of Hajji Moses Kigongo and of Presidency Minister Milly Babalanda, believes that she can lobby opportunities for women in NRM more effectively once she gets to occupy both positions.
