In the grand arena of governance, where every decision shapes a nation’s destiny, the NRM Parliamentary Caucus has drawn the battle lines for Uganda’s economic future.
Meeting at State House Entebbe on Friday, March 7, 2025, the ruling party’s MPs pledged unwavering support for ten game-changing budget priorities aimed at catapulting Uganda into a new era of development.
Chaired by Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, the caucus engaged in high-level deliberations that received a powerful keynote address from President Yoweri Museveni, the National Chairman of the NRM.
At the heart of the resolutions is a commitment to fortify peace, security, and the rule of law, while aggressively expanding access to affordable healthcare through preventive measures.
Obua, speaking to the media at Parliament, outlined the ten priorities, which also include investments in education, clean water, and social protection programs. Economic growth remains a central focus, with MPs rallying behind wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Uganda Development Bank (UDB), and Uganda Development Corporation (UDC).
To modernize infrastructure, the caucus endorsed massive funding for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Meter Gauge Railway (MGR), and road maintenance, alongside plans to lower electricity costs and expand ICT access. They also vowed to push for regional market integration, boost irrigation to stabilize agriculture, and accelerate industrialization through manufacturing and agro processing hubs.
The caucus did not shy away from Uganda’s biggest hurdles, pledging an all-out war on corruption and a renewed focus on environmental protection, particularly safeguarding wetlands and forests. Economic integration, both regionally and locally, was also highlighted as a key strategy for sustainable growth.
Obua, flanked by State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi and Caucus Publicity Secretary Brandon Kintu, assured Ugandans that the NRM is steadfast in its mission to transform the country.
