The PLU pressure group, which is headed by President Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has fronted a prominent Owino market vendor to run for the position of Kampala Central Member of Parliament for 2026.
In a bid to continue testing the Kampala fence with a view to establish where it’s weakest and strike at that exact point, the PLU members have fronted Owino market vendors’ chairperson Suzan Kushaba to run for the MP Seat for which the NUP party is fronting their Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.
The incumbent is Mohammed Nsereko who won’t be seeking reelection in 2026. He is having his eyes on the Presidency. Kushaba has lately been very outspoken on the social justice issues afflicting the ordinary poor people in Kampala Central where she is popular and well known especially among market vendors of Owino, Nakasero and Kiseka all of which are located in Kampala’s CBD.
The other person the PLU/Musevenist NRM squads are considering for the Kampala Central slot is none other than Cedric Babu Ndirima who in 2021 stood but trailed behind Mohammed Nsereko who won with 16,998 votes. Babu got 10,749 votes, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu 15,975; ANT’s Ronald Mukasa Ssenkubuge 1,653 and FDC’s Harold Kaija Scandrone 1,679.
Inside NRM and PLU, Kushaba belongs to the equivalent of foot soldiers in NUP and she is remarkably very popular with the ordinary Kampalans especially those who subscribe to Musevenism.
