Sarah Opendi has always been one politician that is never afraid of speaking her mind. That’s how even cabinet colleagues have come to know her: very assertive, firm and very eloquent.
That’s the exact character the state health minister exhibited yesterday as she addressed a public gathering in Tororo district which she represents as woman MP.
She told a pensive audience that it was unacceptable for police to treat opposition leaders-Besigye and Bobi Wine-in such very dehumanizing manner in the year 2019.
Renowned for taking no prisoners in her approach to public affairs, Opendi said as NRM ministers they are tired of being burdened with the very demonizing publicity resulting from the police brutality while breaking up the two opposition heavyweights’ political processions, meetings and rallies.
She said it was very frightening for the same police (which she condemned for inciting public anger against the top NRM officials) to turn round and issue an advisory urging ministers and other government officials to be extra careful when traveling in vehicles with government number plates.
Opendi joins Mzee John Nagenda whose rant against mistreatment of Mr. Wine was published by Mulengera news over the weekend.
Naggenda said it’s very embarrassing for Bobi Wine (who was just 4 years in 1986 as Museveni took power) to be treated with so much brutality. He urged his boss Museveni to look himself into the mirror and see how ugly Bobi Wine has made his government look in the eyes of right-thinking members of society.
