Former NRM Electoral Commission boss Lydia Wanyoto, has revealed how President Museveni had no interest in NRM’s sole candidature but was forced by NRM MPs. Featuring on Capital FM’s Capital Gang program today (Saturday) morning, Wanyoto said that there is no need to blame Museveni or NRM CEC for his sole candidature but they are the MPs who should curry the blame. She said that if all the 300 MPs that endorsed Museveni at the Kyankwanzi retreat against their voters, it will be their own cross during the 2021 campaigns. “These are MPs who were voted by the people they represent so if they know they acted against their will wait for them to answer during elections but you stop blaming Museveni because he was also convinced,” Wanyoto said. She revealed that a good number of NRM MPs feel that they cannot survive without Museveni since he is the only one holding meal cards and it’s the reason they must endorse him to go unchallenged because they don’t want to lose. Wanyoto further behaved controversial among the gang members when she said that there are no political parties and that it is an insult to call NRM or DP a political party because what exists are individuals with influence who are able to mobilize the masses on their sides. “It is more of an insult to call NRM a political party and please stop it from their Uganda has no political party,” Wanyoto added. This statement prompted DP President General Norbert Mao to respond to Wanyoto to stop insulting other political parties by comparing them with the NRM which has sycophants of Museveni. Mao furiously said that: “Stop your insult on DP political party with your Sycophants because DP stands on values and we are incomparable to any other political organization or party in this country.” Mao added there is no need to talk about what happened in Kyankwanzi because those are common rituals by the Museveni and his sycophants. He also warned those who have taken Museveni as the only by locking other potentials leaders in his NRM to wait for disaster that will strike them after him. “However big a tree is, it will never be a forest and therefore don’t think that Museveni being a big tree in the forest is the forest. Museveni must exist while knowing that Uganda will remain forever,” he said. The Rujumbura county MP Fred Turyamuhweza told Wanyoto not to hoodwink Ugandans by comparing smart political parties with the NRM and Museveni. Turyamuhweza said that Museveni declared his sole candidature in 2017 when his forces invaded the parliament and clobbered those who opposed the constitutional amendment bill that had presidential age limit scraped from the constitution. Ofwono Opondo who had less time to speak also defended Wanyoto saying that even when Museveni was endorsed by the MPs opposition candidates are busy declaring themselves meaning that they are also considered sole candidates in their respective parties. Wanyoto’s statements corroborated with those of Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu who recently said that MPs are many in Parliament they are few with brains that makes decision for the rest.
