Led by Godfrey Nyakana, NRM leaders from structures making Kampala special region (basically the 5 city divisions) have warned that President Museveni’s programs of donating money to the ghetto youths won’t work. They say unless he involves them as party structures, those ghetto efforts won’t weaken Bobi Wine and make M7 stronger. In a meeting at NRM headquarters Kyaddondo road in Nakasero last evening, the party leaders accused Museveni of conducting his political business in a manner that clearly weakens the NRM party. They were angry that instead of empowering cadres who have been in the party from inception, Museveni is busy hobnobbing with political failures from the opposition like Beti Kamya and Florence Nakiwala who voters rejected in 2016. The cadres said they are financially very poor because M7 they are risking for doesn’t appreciate and instead gives money to moles from the opposition at the expense of financially empowering party cadres. They said M7 had now degerated to using bad language of calling people pigs, coachroches etc because he has sidelined sober-minded cadres to surround himself with money-makers from opposition. This point was specifically made by Beatrice Kabagenyi the NRM treasurer for Kampala Central. The other leaders who spat fire at the meeting included Frank Asiimwe (NRM publicist for Rubaga), John Mutenda (NRM Chairman Kampala Central), Ibrahim Kamihanda (NRM General Secretary for Kawempe), Salim Uhuru, Justine Buchana (Vice Chair Rubaga) and Fatuma Katongole (Women League). Kamihanda, a renowned veteran NRM supporter, said because he has surrounded himself with money-making opportunists from the opposition, Museveni was recently duped to give Kawempe money to beneficiary groups comprising of people who aren’t from Kawempe Division.
