After hosting Bobi Wine for private talks yesterday Monday 31st December at his Wakaligga residence (where the two leaders even had lunch together), Kampala Lord Mayor the indomitable Erias Lukwago announced that 2019 was going to be a year of joint opposition action pushing for the end of President Museveni’s rule. And this action (whatever form it will take) is something Bobi Wine, who has increasingly been getting raddicalized because of the State brutality breaking up his concerts, is expected to prominently participate in along with Col Kizza Besigye and other battle-hardened veterans of the anti-Museveni struggle. Sources inside his camp say that Mr. Wine realizes this is the time he needs to stand in solidarity with credible popular tested leaders who clearly are prepared to stand with him unlike other People Power self-professed leaders who go into hiding and switch off their phones whenever the day of reckoning comes. He has suffered this betrayal (being left to be brutalized alone) many times including the day he returned from the US and more recently at Busabala One Love Beach where security agencies brutally molested his supporters and blocked his concert. To him it has come to a time when “the nature of oppressor must determine the nature of the struggle” just like legendary Nelson Mandela writes in his book while justifying the role of formations like Umukontho Wesizwe (ANC’s action-oriented defiance wing formed after the Rivonia trials) in the broader anti-Apartheid struggle. Mr. Wine also used the visit to thank Lukwago for the fearless solidarity he has exhibited since the Boxing Day fracas at Busabala seen in the media talk shows he has attended to denounce State actions. It was from Lukwago’s home after lunch that Mr. Wine sneaked into Lubiri (commando-style) for his Enkuuka perfomance that sparked ecstacy in the crowd. Without divulging details of the ongoing discussions aimed at forging joint platform against Museveni, Lukwago says such meetings are aimed at planning a range of joint actions being planned in the New Year.
