Residents and businesses in several areas along Ggaba Road are facing temporary water supply disruptions following an emergency that prompted the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to shut off supply to affected zones.
In an update issued on its official communication platforms, NWSC said water supply to Kalungu, Kawuku, Bunga, Ggaba Bypass, Ggaba Market and surrounding areas had been temporarily closed to allow technicians to handle an emergency at Ivory Mall on Ggaba Road.
The utility provider did not immediately disclose the exact nature of the emergency but indicated that the shutdown was necessary to enable urgent intervention works aimed at restoring normal service.
“Water supply to Kalungu, Kawuku, Bunga, Ggaba bypass, Ggaba market, and the surrounding areas has been closed off to handle an emergency at Ivory Mall on Ggaba Road,” NWSC said in the notice.
The disruption is expected to affect households, businesses, restaurants and other establishments that depend on piped water supply in the affected neighborhoods, especially during peak daytime hours.
Residents have been advised to use any available stored water sparingly as repair teams work to address the problem. Although NWSC did not provide a timeline for restoration, the corporation said efforts are underway to resolve the emergency and normalize supply as soon as possible.
The water utility apologized for the inconvenience caused by the interruption, saying the emergency works were unavoidable.
“All inconveniences are highly regretted,” the statement added.
The latest disruption comes amid increasing pressure on water infrastructure in the greater Kampala metropolitan area, where growing urban populations and occasional technical faults have at times led to interruptions in supply.
Consumers in the affected areas are expected to await further communication from NWSC regarding the progress of repair works and the restoration of normal water services.
