The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has removed its temporary tax office container from Kikubo in downtown Kampala, a step that has been welcomed by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The container had been providing free taxpayer support services to traders operating in the busy business area. Its removal follows ongoing efforts by city authorities to clear temporary structures from the streets as part of a broader plan to improve order, cleanliness, and security in the capital.
URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi recently commended KCCA for its work in reorganizing the city, including the removal of street hawkers. He later indicated that the temporary tax office in Kikubo would also be taken down after serving its intended purpose.
Earlier, Balaam Barugahare, the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, had shared an open letter proposing a more structured approach to tax education and enforcement activities in the city. He suggested identifying permanent buildings along strategic downtown streets to serve traders, instead of using temporary containers placed in public spaces.
He also emphasized the need for consistent enforcement of laws governing temporary structures to ensure fairness and maintain public confidence in the city’s management efforts.
With the container now removed, URA has indicated that taxpayer support services will continue from alternative designated locations as the city advances its reorganization plans.
