On Friday evening, Ofwono Opondo, who was busy minding his business at his farm in Kapelebyong, got a phone call from State House indicating that the President needed to have some private discussion with him urgently.
Opondo, loyal to his boss as always, immediately got onto the road and headed to Kampala. While in Kampala in the wee hours of Saturday, Opondo was told to keep his phone on and patiently wait for the subsequent instructions as to where and the exact time he would be meeting his Principal.
It wasn’t readily possible to establish what exactly the big man from Rwakitura wanted and indeed did discuss with his experienced and thick-skinned spin-doctor from Mulanda in the Bukedi district of Tororo. What’s certain is that the two indeed engaged during the weekend and the details will only become available in the coming days.
Renowned for not taking things for granted, it wouldn’t be surprising if it turns out that Gen Museveni brought up the issue of how to effectively respond to the bad publicity the Kampala regime has endured for the past few weeks following the Kizza Besigye kidnap in Nairobi last November and ongoing televised prosecution proceedings in the court martial at Makindye.
Quite predictably, Gen Museveni must equally be focusing on how to effectively respond while demonizing the person of Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi-Dollo should the Supreme Court rule against the Attorney General on Friday as they deliver their long-awaited verdict on the constitutionality and permissibility of trying civilians in the court martial and military tribunals.
With chief sophist Tamale Mirundi permanently gone, Ofwono Opondo is conspiceously one of the few remaining regime veteran hatchemen and effectively spin masters for the regime in Kampala.(For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
