In a drive to strengthen Uganda’s emergency response capabilities, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Maritime Department, conducted search and rescue sensitisation workshops in Ntungamo and Isingiro districts on February 11 and 12, 2025, respectively.
The workshops aimed to enhance public awareness about search and rescue services, which play a crucial role in responding to air and water emergencies.
Participants were equipped with knowledge on how to locate, evacuate, and provide initial medical and humanitarian assistance to people in distress during unfortunate incidents.
Search and rescue is a national obligation that relies on the efficient use of available resources and coordination among various agencies. The workshops targeted key stakeholders to ensure a well-prepared response network in case of emergencies.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioners, Mr. Dennis Mutungi Mugyenyi (Isingiro) and Mr. Isaiah Kanyamahane Byaruhanga (Ntungamo), presided over the opening ceremonies in their respective districts.
The sessions brought together representatives from the Uganda Police, local government leadership, medical personnel, headteachers, and the Uganda Red Cross, among others.
With such initiatives, Uganda is taking proactive steps to enhance safety and preparedness, ensuring that every second counts in life-saving missions. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
