Speaking as best friend to the deceased, legendary city tycoon Gordon Wavamunno says former Premier Apollo Nsibambi died a politically very disgruntled man. Speaking to Buganda Kingdom-owned BBS TV, Wavamunno said some weeks ago Nsibambi watched very disturbing images on TV. The images depicted police and other security forces badly clobbering people who had gathered to show support and solidarity to Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Sentamu. “We spoke days later and he told me about what he watched on TV. He was clearly disturbed and he told me Obote was a very bad man and unleashed brutal force because he hated Buganda but his forces didn’t unleash so much brutal force on the population like we see those of today doing,” Wavamunno told journalist Robert Mwanje who was interviewing him on the Nsibambi he knew. “He believed as a country we were politically retrogressing.” Wavamunno is perhaps among those who knew Nsibambi well because he is even the man he chose to lead his entourage in 2003 to get introduced to Easter’s parents as Nsibambi remarried following the death of his first wife Rhoda Nsibambi. It’s not hard to believe Wava’s narrative because in the later part of his life, Nsibambi joined James Ogoola’s Elder’s Forum and became very active in calling for national dialogue focussing on political transition from President Museveni to another leader. Indeed his very last interview was with NTV in which he emphasized the need for Museveni not to seek re-election in 2021. He was clearly opposed to the scrapping of age limits in the Constitution.
