Regnant Mafabi always knew that tycoon Suleiman Mafabi Lumolo, for whom she is the senior first wife, was cohabiting with former Minister Barbra Nekesa. But what gave her rude shock was the secretive manner in which the cracking tycoon arranged their marriage ceremony in Kampala over the weekend. Hajjat Mafabi lives in Mbale in the tycoon’s residence near Industrial Area (on the road going to Willis hotel) and she is one of the two wives the Hajji has in Mbale. “On seeing images on social media she collapsed because whereas as a Muslim he is free to marry many wives, she ideally expected to be consulted on the wedding and her consent secured which wasn’t done. That is why she collapsed and spent much of Saturday and Sunday under close management by family doctors. Some pondered rushing her to Mbale Hospital,” says a close family source based in Mbale. With Mafabi, Hajjat has 7 children including the youth MP Ismail Mafabi. Lumolo has a second wife who too lives in Mbale. She is a muchotara and her brother is Abdullah Jaffery, Lumolo’s co-director in Kampala Modernity car importation business. He too wasn’t involved in the wedding which Lumolo kept top secret even to his Modernity employees. With this muchotara lady, Lumolo has three children. Of all co-directors at Modernity, only Rashid Lwanga (who marries Musa Kigongo’s daughter) attended the wedding. In Kampala Lumolo has another 3rd wife who lives in the Akright home along Entebbe road. She works with Orient Bank in Kampala. The Mbale wives, whenever they visit him in Kampala, live in Lumolo’s rented House in Najjera and they are furious a recent Nekesa had the Muyenga plot transferred in her names and a posh house urgently constructed for her. Lumolo started hitting it with Nekesa in 2014 when they first met in the Busia LC5 by-elections and became closer to each other in 2015 as Barbra struggled to win NRM primaries to remain Busia woman MP. She lost and Lumolo, who invested up to Shs500m hurting his business in the process, was left with an egg on his face. When she lost MP Seat, she was also fired in Cabinet and became Uganda’s Ambassador to South Africa. During credentials’ presentation as new Ambassador, Nekesa took Lumolo and introduced him to Zuma as her spouse and there are photos to that effect. Nekesa lost Busia vote partly because Basamia voters were unhappy with the way she treated her original husband Mr. Oundo (their son) the moment she became MP and Minister. “He is the one who funded all her elections but she turned her back on him after winning. She even built a house in her mother’s home which annoyed Busia elders. They expected her to invest in her husband’s home,” says a former campaigner. Her supporters in the family remained sympathetic and blamed the misunderstandings on the act that Mr. Oundo (a diplomat) was beginning to listen to the maid more to understand whatever Barbra did in his absence for duty.
