Makindye Division has 245 villages in each of which the ruling NRM party was supposed to have sponsored a candidate. And the responsibility to carry out that mobilization fell on the NRM leaders for Makindye District who were dully facilitated and logistically empowered to go sensitize and motivate the NRM flag bearers. A meeting was dully organized at Land Star Hotel but what shocked the operatives on the State House political mobilization department, headed by political strategist Moses Byaruhanga, was the realization that at that meeting less than 40 NRM flag bearers were invited and facilitated. This greatly disturbed State House operatives who were left wondering why the number was so small yet their own meeting, to which cadres were invited and only took soda with no transport refund, over 500 people attended at short notice. Coming days before the NRM area meeting at Land Star Hotel, the State House meeting organized by a group led by Godfrey Longa was held at Kiwuliriza Hall near Daily Monitor and there was an overflow because cadres wanted to hear words of encouragement from the big man. We are reliably informed that depending on how well or badly the ruling party performs in the LC1 polls in Makindye, the big man will be out to crack the whip having got reports that some of the members in the Makindye district executive are very disgruntled and have quietly been grumbling while sabotaging the NRM from within its own structures. Also of great concern to the NRM national chairman is the invisibility of Godfrey Nyakana throughout the party’s mobilization for the LC1 elections yet he is the Party chairman for Kampala region which comprises of districts like Kampala Central, Nakawa, Makindye, Rubaga and Kawempe districts. In a related development, there are also concerns that in the remote Karamoja districts like Amudat each of the flag bearers was given Shs40,000 yet more was budgeted. This is something operatives in Odoi Tanga’s office have already reported to the President who wants this and many other cases comprehensively investigated.
