In the quiet corridors of justice, truth often hides in the shadows, waiting to be unveiled.
The ongoing trial of Molly Katanga, accused of murdering her husband, businessman Henry Katanga, took a crucial turn on Tuesday as digital forensic evidence was presented before the High Court in Kampala.
Assistant Commissioner of Police and digital forensic expert, Enock Kanene, testified on the extraction of phone call data, CCTV footage, and images retrieved from the accused persons’ mobile devices. The court heard that a total of 101 phone calls were made on the morning of November 2, 2023, the day Henry Katanga was fatally shot at their home on Chwa II Road in Mbuya.
State prosecutors, led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Jonathan Muwaganya, presented evidence linking mobile phones, video recordings, and location data to key individuals in the case.
One of the most striking revelations was a selfie taken at 7:33 AM on the same day, allegedly by one of the accused, showing a man in a blood-stained shirt. Additionally, call records indicated multiple communications between the accused parties before and after the tragic incident.
Molly Katanga, who followed the proceedings via video link from Luzira Prison, is on trial alongside her daughters, Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi, as well as George Amanyire (a domestic worker) and Charles Otai (a nursing officer). The latter two are accused of attempting to destroy evidence related to the murder.
As the case unfolds, the prosecution continues to piece together digital footprints and forensic findings in its bid to establish the truth.
With more evidence expected, the courtroom remains a battlefield where facts, technology, and the law converge in pursuit of justice. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
