SHE IS A TRAITOR: FEDERAL ALLIANCE EXPLAINS BETI KAMYA’S EXPULSION

By Shadrah Nambalirwa

Speaking on behalf of others, Baker Byayi who is the national spokesperson for Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) has revealed why they want their founding party President out of office now and not later. In a lengthy interview with Mulengera news, Byayi said that Kamya had used them too much while taking them for fools. He says that the day Kamya was named Kampala minister, she organized a luncheon for them as friends at her residence in Lungujja. During that event, she casually explained to them how Museveni was willing to properly enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NRM and UFA. Byayi says Kamya told them the MoU would in details explain how other party members would benefit from the new relationship. Members left the party convinced that many of them would at least become RDCs courtesy of Kamya’s lobbying skills just like Henry Mayega did for many UPC youths the moment he joined NRM. “She is a selfish user who just likes to exploit people dishonestly. That was an informal meeting at her place and she lied us there was an MoU which turned out to be false. She duped to create a committee chaired by Ps Mukwaya that would follow up the MoU issue. She excited us by saying she would fund the committee but she didn’t and what we now know she just cut a personal deal with Museveni. She is my friend but the truth is Beti Kamya is a very dishonest person. She keeps saying she consulted UFA leaders and they endorsed her to join cabinet which is not true because this was just a luncheon we attended as her friends and not party leaders,” says Byayi who has been with Kamya since 2008 when she had just fallen with FDC. “We have sacrificed a lot to always be with her but I’m surprised she has paid us back that way. She is operating with a very small clique comprising of a mufere called Lt Frank Matovu, Frank Sekaza and a one Hassan Kasibante who actually doesn’t hold any position in UFA.” Byayi says that instead of empowering party cadres, Kamya has resorted to using her powerful ministerial position to come and intimidate UFA members and leaders who are assertive enough to criticize her bad record as a dishonest politician. “She no longer serves UFA interests and recently she even used force to block our NEC meeting that was to take place at party headquarters [Kabusu] last week. We were more than 50 leaders and we had to relocate to Sekawa hotel in Kibuye. During that meeting it was resolved that we immediately replace her with someone more prepared to work for the party.” Byayi says that they are planning to have another meeting this week at the same hotel where Kamya’s successor as UFA President will be determined. He says the meeting will be chaired national party chairman Peter Mayeku and that so far two party members namely Francis Nsibirwa and Ibrahim Nsamba have expressed interest in party presidency. He says Kamya prefers feeble-minded UFA leaders as opposed to strong characters who can look her in the eye and say to hell with your manipulative politics. “We as UFA are clearly at crossroads because we are not part of the eating in the NRM and yet [Bobi Wine’s] People Power and [Besigye’s] People’s Government do not trust us because they say we are moles for NRM. Kamya who should have provided answers has turned her back on us and we don’t know what is happening for UFA,” Byayi says adding that Kamya’s expulsion will provide clarity as to what UFA stands for in the politics of Uganda. Byayi says that failure to call party meetings is the clearest evidence of incompetence they are having against Kamya. Asked why don’t summon her for a disciplinary hearing, Byayi says Kamya (who continues to be in Kyankwanzi) hasn’t been very easy for them to communicate to. He says either Nsibirwa or Nsamba will make a better party President for UFA because of the commitment they have always exhibited towards the party. Whereas Nsamba who left FDC with Kamya in 2008 serves as UFA secretary in charge of foreign affairs, Nsibirwa (who is LC3 Chairman for Mpenja sub county in Mpigi) is widely respected in UFA because he is the only party member who stood on UFA ticket in 2016 and got elected as such.
