The Kyankwanzi-orchestrated coup that ousted Jackson Senyonga Muyanja from the chairmanship of Buganda Parliamentary caucus has been described as a betrayal to Kabaka of Buganda and Buganda Kingdom at large. During the week-long retreat by NRM MPs at Kyankwanzi, it’s only Buganda Parliamentary caucus that changed its leadership and had MP Muyanja who voted against the removal of age limit from the constitution kicked out of the chair and replaced by Kabula county MP James Kakooza. DP’s Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu, who is also a senior Member of the Buganda Parliamentary caucus, used Tuesday’s DP weekly press briefing to refer to his colleagues from the NRM as traitors who sacrificed Buganda interests to serve those of President Museveni. He revealed that the Buganda Parliamentary caucus, which is comprised of many tribes, has been in place to serve the interest of Buganda and the Kabaka of Buganda but the removal of Muyanja as punishment for refusing to favor Museveni during the Magyezi bill shows that NRM MPs have abandoned the original caucus ideology to primarily serve Museveni and his NRM. Sewungu further revealed that himself had no confidence in Muyanja before as they voted the very reason he supported Rwemiyaga’s Sekikuubo who terribly lost. But because of the spirit of Buganda he was among the first to congratulate him and has always worked with him as chairman. “Muyanja has been victimized for his refusal to support the bill that removed the age limit cap from the Constitution to favor Museveni. We expected this because they are many but they have betrayed Buganda,” says Sewungu. He added that himself and others that were not part of the Kyankwanzi coup will not recognize Kakooza as their chairperson because Muyanja was legally elected. For comments, call or text 0752510225.
