Sarah Opendi, the much respected Tororo district woman MP, has raised a red flag describing Tanga Odoi as fatally unfit and too biased to deliver free and fair flag bearer elections for the NRM flag bearers in Tororo district where both of them hail from.
Opendi says that Prof Tanga Odoi is openly biased against some politicians from Tororo whose Kisoko village he hails from. She gives herself as an example making it clear that, even when she is very popular, her victory has always been altered to favour political weaklings which forces her to stand as an independent who wins with landslides against ruling party-sponsored candidates even when she is more NRM than many of the babes to whom the party ticket has always been handed to.
Opendi, who famously disagreed with Gen Museveni over the Rebecca Kadaga vs. Jacob Oulanyah race in May 2021, says these electoral injustices have been orchestrated against her since the year 2011 but by the grace of God, and alo because voters have genuine love for her, she has always prevailed in the ballot box without ever becoming antagonistic towards the NRM party or government.
She says the fact that voters have always voted her as independent against Tanga-imposed flag bearers should be enough to indicate to the President that the NRM primaries outcome is always at variance with what voters want. This is something she wants President Museveni to look into while considering having a special committee to conduct party primaries for Tororo in order to circumvent the Odoi Tanga’s mischief.
Opendi registered her grievances on Friday at NRM EC headquarters in Kampala moments after getting nominated inside Tanga’s compound. In response, Tanga rubbished everything and advised the public to ignore Sarah Opendi because her claims against him have always lacked credibility. He explained that his EC members stick to strict election guidelines which make it hard for anyone to win and have their victory altered given the high levels of transparency.
