In a dramatic twist to the ongoing investigation into the daring break-in at JBK Plaza, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of over UGX 33 million and $26,600 from 16 shops.
Joseph Bani, known as Young, and Samuel Bhosa, alias Sam, were apprehended by police after they reportedly confessed to their roles in the heist.
The pair is currently being held at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala as investigators close in on the full extent of the crime.
The audacious robbery took place on the morning of October 20, 2025, when thieves broke into a range of businesses inside the plaza, including mobile money outlets, forex bureaus, and retail stores.
Police were able to make a breakthrough after reviewing CCTV footage from shop G-12, which clearly showed the suspects alongside an unlikely accomplice, Bosco Gahungu, a security guard at the building.
Gahungu, who is now one of the prime suspects, was seen working alongside other unidentified criminals during the well-planned heist.
In a shocking turn of events, both Young and Sam admitted to their involvement during police questioning.
They detailed how they had carried out the operation and even participated in a re-enactment of the robbery on November 3, showing police exactly how they managed to infiltrate the plaza and execute their theft.
However, the case is far from over. Bosco Gahungu, the security guard who had inside knowledge of the building’s operations, is still on the run, along with five other men.
Despite the progress made, police are intensifying their efforts to track down the remaining suspects, with authorities calling on the public to come forward with any information that could lead to their capture.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango assured the public that all individuals involved in the crime will be brought to justice, and urged the community to remain vigilant.
He stressed that the investigation was ongoing, with authorities determined to uncover the full details of the heist and hold all perpetrators accountable.
The case has sent shockwaves through Kampala, as the involvement of a trusted security guard raises serious questions about the security measures in place at public venues like JBK Plaza.
