National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has donated its land located in Nakasamba in Entebbe, Wakiso District, to electricity distributor Umeme to enable the construction of a power sub-station.
Umeme has praised the magnanimous and hardworking Eng Silver Mugisha and his NWSC team for their generosity, and for being great partners in efforts to improve service delivery through provision of reliable, adequate and safe utilities.
According to Umeme, construction works on the Entebbe-based Nakasamba Substation, expected to begin soon, will cost $2m.
Upon completion, the substation is expected to solve load, demand and power reliability challenges faced by dwellers in the Entebbe Township.
According to Umeme, construction works are expected to be completed in just five months, meaning that the residents of Entebbe will have a more reliable power supply by the close of this year or early 2022.
Umeme, under its very results-oriented MD Selestino Babungi, has over the years invested heavily in Uganda’s power sector, doubling the distribution network and embracing new technologies. These investment efforts have paid off, leading to growth in the customer base and a more reliable electricity supply.
Like his counterpart MD Babungi at Umeme, NWSC boss Mugisha is steadily steering the water corporation to greater heights, undertaking a number of projects aimed at improving the reliability of water supply.
The most recent project the very able Eng Mugisha has unveilled is the Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant. The plant has capacity to produce 240 million litres of water on a daily basis.
