A group of Youth subscribing to the ruling NRM party have joined a section of NRM MPs and opposition leaders in a fight against President Museveni’s appearance on the 2021 ballot.
Speaking at a media briefing in Masaka on Saturday, under their umbrella association dubbed NRM for Justice, they emphasized that other people should be given a chance to challenge President Museveni.
Tariq Nkata who is the spokesperson for this group used the Masaka press briefing to announce that a potential candidate has been identified and is ready to floor Museveni within the party should he insist on contesting for presidency.
He revealed that their candidate will be unveiled at later time upon failing on other remaining options to fail Museveni’s candidature.
He noted that President Museveni’s achievements and contribution are appreciated but it’s time for the NRM to look forward and consider the future of the country under President Museveni and his sycophants.
Abdullah Ssenabulya, the Katwe/Butego Division NRM Youth leader who noted that NRM MPs who have proven to be Minions of President Museveni didn’t consult the population and youth leaders at large for them to make President Museveni a sole candidate, revealed that the youths leaders will walk different parts of the sensitizing the masses about the dangers of fronting Museveni as a sole candidate.
The youths also demand for the amendment of the NRM party constitution to provide for a full-time party chairperson because the current party chairman (Museveni) who is also the President is too busy to handle party business.

“Most of the time, we are tossed up and down in attempts to see the party chairperson because we have nowhere to get him, you go to Kyadondo they send you to State House and when you reach State House they send you back to Kyadondo if you are lucky and not arrested from there,” said one of the youths.
Agnes Namukasa, the Lubaga Division NRM youths’ leader said that for the party-related issues to be solved without a hustle, the party chairman should be barred by the Constitution from any other top position in government such as presidency.
However, Rodgers Mulindwa, the NRM Publicity Secretary bashed the youths whom he said they are not informed and challenged them to read and internalize the party constitution.
Mulindwa says that the youths are mistaken on office of the party chairperson and presidency because it was just by a coincidence that Ugandan’s elected the NRM party chairperson as president but not because the constitution says so. Recently, a group of NRM MPs opposed to president Museveni’s sole candidature vowed to petition court challenging the Kyankwanzi resolution that made President Museveni a sole party candidate.
