The sudden death of DP youthful politician Ruth Namubiru moments after eating party food at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala has sparked speculation as to whether she wasn’t a victim of targeted poisoning. At the time of her death, Namubiru was serving her first term as Nansana Municipality councilor representing the two parishes of Wamirongo and Kiwenda. How did she meet her death? On 23rdDecember, she joined fellow councilors for the end of year party the Municipality Mayor Regina Bakitte (with whom she had previously developed differences) organized for staff at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala. After the party, Namubiru returned home to sleep but in the morning of 24th her younger sister who was staying with her realized she hadn’t woke up. She checked on her and found she was extremely weak, helpless and unable to say anything. She rang the husband who rushed with a car to take her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Immediately after being pronounced dead, the Nansana Municipal authorities suddenly got involved and overruled family members who were insisting on carrying out a postmortem. Being her employers, the Municipality officials curiously insisted the postmortem wasn’t necessary and they got the area police to acquiesce along to have no postmortem. They silenced the deceased’s parents who were insisting on knowing why anyone would poison their daughter. The burial program too was rushed to ensure that Namubiru, who had already declared ambition to oust Busukuma Division LC3 Chairman (Mayor) Ronald Mutebi Double, was buried the following day 24th December. During the burial, the clerics who had come to pray for the deceased asked why there was no postmortem report and blamed police and Namubiru’s employers at Nansana Municipal Council where the political wrangling and intrigue had previously led to her knifing from the Municipality executive where she was serving as Secretary for health. Her death caused so much grief throughout the rapidly-urbanizing Busukuma Division to the extent that Chairman Mutebi Double initially failed to make his address to the mourners on grounds that he was suddenly feeling unwell. Like many other speakers at the burial, Mayor Mubiru was cagey and noncommittal when hinting about the possible cause of the youthful politician’s death. He urged the very broken mourners to leave everything to God because he is the one who gives and takes when it comes to matters of life. Speculation is rapidly spreading with many claiming the DP diehard could have been poisoned during dinner at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala when the Municipality’s end of year party was held. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
