Uganda North American Development Association headed by Children & Youth Affairs Minister Nakiwala Kiyingi has been boosted with charitable material support from Kinyara Sugar Ltd. KSL Communication’s officer Mathias Wanok, who escorted his CMO Sekhar V, said the freebies delivered to the Association’s Youth Rehabilitation Center in Mutundwe were part of the company’s broader CSR strategy of returning to the community. The Bujenje Masindi-based KSL donated a range of items that included sugar, soap and posho to the Youth Center were hundreds of former street vulnerable juvenile children are housed for their rehabilitation and vocational skilling. Nakiwala was at hand to receive the Kinyara delegation and she was extremely grateful for the support that Kinyara Sugar extended to the initiative. She called this the beginning of a fruitful partnership which Sekhar confirmed management looks forward to. ‘‘The Association takes care of about 300 youth who go through detailed scientific phases of rehabilitation right from inception, counseling through to imparting them with skills such as tailoring, hair styling, mechanics, driving and football among other skills,’’ Nakiwala said. She added that the rehabilitation period is one year after which the children get enrolled to gain full employment or start up their own businesses. She further explained that employers from the various institutions are presented with an opportunity of a pool from which potential vocational employees can be chosen through this initiative depending on the profile of employee that they are interested in to facilitate their business strategies. Kinyara Sugar Marketing Manager Sekhar V was deeply touched by the initiative. He expressed his gratitude to Nakiwala Kiyingi for having initiated such a project that puts a smile on the faces of the disadvantaged children. He encouraged the youth at the centre to be grateful and get the best from the skills acquired since such opportunities do not usually come on a silver platter. He pledged that Kinyara Sugar shall continue to extend support. The Kinyara Sugar communications manager, Mathias Wanok said: ‘‘Having such an initiative amidst our community is a manifestation that there will always be hope whatever situation one goes through.” He added that Kinyara has a robust community outreach strategy that is geared towards creating an environment that advantages each individual to be in the best state of life and that this is one among other initiatives that the organisation is undertaking. He further applauded Nakiwala for being very considerate towards such vulnerable kids. The event was crowned off with an overly entertaining dance performance from female beneficiaries of the project.
