Information just in indicates that Afande Edith Nakalema is striking again asserting herself against impropriety in the labor externalization business. This comes only days after she arrested and publicly paraded bosses of the Muyenga-based Middle East Consultants accusing them of duping, manipulating and exploiting jobless young people.
This very Thursday evening a short while ago, detectives from Nakalema’s State House Anti-Corruption Unit rushed to Entebbe Road where they intercepted vans ferrying over 90 young people abroad for employment. They were being shipped out by Khaleej Agencies Ltd and the Nakalema entourage drove them to Kibuli CIID Headquarters where they are currently being detained for further management. The interception, part of a very dramatic operation, took place at Najjanankumbi at a point called ku Stella.
The question many are asking is how deeply is Nakalema, who has lately taken no prisoners, prepared to go cracking the whip into what has for years been perceived as a no-go area because of the alleged vested interest many powerfully-connected individuals are said to have in the labor externalization industry. Will the powerful beneficiaries simply accept being cowed and merely look as Nakalema, who President Museveni publicly praised as fearless, threatens their economic interests? Only time will tell.
