President Yoweri Museveni’s Secretary Yoweri Museveni Phiona Barungi has returned to office after nearly seven months away, following a serious domestic accident that required surgery. In a video shared on her TikTok account, Barungi marked her comeback by thanking God, supporters, and colleagues for their patience during her recovery period, while also issuing a strong warning to the public about rising impersonation scams targeting her name and office.
Barungi explained that she suffered a severe fall in a bathroom that led to complications requiring an operation. She said the incident kept her out of public duties for six to seven months, describing the period as one of recovery and reflection. She expressed gratitude for what she called a “miraculous” survival and recovery, noting that few people who experience similar accidents return without lasting complications.
She thanked people who prayed, especially social media supporters, saying she had been informed about widespread prayers shared for her recovery. She asked for continued blessings for all those who supported her during her illness, emphasizing that their messages and encouragement played a significant role in sustaining her morale throughout the difficult period.
Upon returning to duty, Barungi recounted an incident involving an individual who allegedly impersonated a senior military officer, claiming to be a Brigadier General. She said the suspect had previously contacted her and later visited her office, attempting to exploit her name and position for personal gain. Initially believing the caller was legitimate, she directed him to her office before discovering inconsistencies in his identity.
Barungi said she alerted police, who were called to investigate the matter. She warned that the suspect appeared part of a wider network of impersonators using multiple fake accounts to defraud the public and exploit institutional trust.
She urged the public to remain vigilant, warning that scammers often use fake numbers and multiple accounts to deceive victims. She provided official contact numbers associated with her office, stressing that only verified lines should be trusted.
Among them, she cited 0392969622 as an official office line and 0773036066 as a mobile contact, adding that other numbers would be communicated through verified channels. Barungi cautioned that any number not registered in her name or office should be treated as suspicious and reported immediately to authorities, emphasizing that public awareness is key to preventing fraud.
