A section of Makindye Sabagabo Municipality residents are up in arms against their MP Sempala Kigozi whom they accuse of grabbing and detaining a body of a dead Boda rider in order to derive political capital while undermining his political adversary Eng. David Serukenya. The political conflict between Sempala and Serukenya who wants to oust him in 2021 has been so intense and has left Sabagabo residents sharply split into two camps. The conflict escalated earlier this week when a young man who was also a Boda rider at Konoweka stage succumbed to his illness after being bed-ridden for a very long time.
When he died Sempala Kigozi’s supporters led by area LC 2 Chairman a one Kabiswa came to his home and took charge of the funeral naturally in order to grieve with his family in return for political capital, something the Serukenya camp members didn’t like. They started protesting and saying Sempala wasn’t acting in good faith because despite being a neighbor on the same village, the MP didn’t do anything to help the ailing Boda rider for all the months he was bed-ridden. Serukenya says that instead of owning his mess, Sempala shamelessly reached out to the family using Kabiswa and demanded to be allowed to take charge. Serukenya says there was chaos at the funeral as his supporters resisted the mischief orchestrated by Sempala Kigozi’s camp. In the ensuing chaos, a popular local celebrity called MC Kaberenge (aka Pr. Bugingo) who also happens to be a diehard supporter for Serukenya was terribly thumped and his face badly bruised. Serukenya say that Kaberenge was specifically targeted on orders of Sempala delivered through the LC 2 Chairman Kabiswa. Serukenya says this is additional proof that the incumbent (Sempala) is panicking and actually fears him like thunder.
SEMPALA SPEAKS OUT
In a phone interview with Mulengera news, Sempala said that Serukenya is just a political wannabe who is trying to make a name by making regular attacks to a giant of his size. “That man has been rejected by the people because he has nothing to offer and that’s why he has resorted to fighting for dead bodies. For heaven sake, I’m an MP with a lot of work to do and can’t impose myself on anybody. When that young man died the family came to me asking for my vehicle to transport the body which I offered. But later I had that the desperate Serukenya was feuding saying that can’t be and because I dislike that business of fighting for dead bodies, I told my people to withdraw but the family kept insisting that they preferred my vehicle,” Sempala said adding that because he despises Serukenya’s cheap politics he even decided to personally not to step at the funeral. “Like any other crook, Serukenya has his thugs who like causing chaos. I’m told during the vigil they tried to speak ill about me while trying to beat up people, something my supporters couldn’t tolerate. In the end there was a physical fight during which that man Kaberenge was thumped and there is no way you can blame the defensive actions of my supporters on me.” Sempala says that the case is actually already at police where Kaberenge has reported and himself as MP is not mentioned anywhere in the victim’s statement. He says that Serukenya is politically confused and has been planted by the NRM to create confusion in Sabagabo and reduce the support of People Power and Bobi Wine in the area.
