Chaos ensued in Kabwangasi Trading Centre Butebo District when a 40-year-old woman attacked and smashed Butebo County MP Fred Oduchu Mudokoyi’s car in a bid to recover her Shs3.5m she had previously sent to him through his driver a one Karim Bumba. The woman (a step mother to MP Mudokoyi) stormed the washing bay where the car was parked and smashed it at around 9.00am yesterday Wednesday.
Butebo Kabwangasi town residents gather to have a look at MP Mudokoyi’s vehicle that his mother smashed over the Shs3.5m debt
The woman (identified as Ms Hawa Sabano a resident of Nyadera village Puti parish Kabwangasi sub-county in Butebo district) was infuriated by the conduct of the MP’s driver Karim Bumba. She accused Bumba of tricking her to surrender her hard-earned Shs3.5m claiming the MP had sent for it.Moses Omuka, who witnessed the fracas, says Hawa Sabano had cited the MP’s vehicle (UBA 919T) parked at the driver’s home on her way to Kabwangasi Trading Centre to buy beans but upon return the driver [Bumba] had moved away the vehicle to one of the washing bays. She thought he was trying to avoid her and dupe her to think he isn’t around. “The very irritated Sabano returned with an axe and smashed the vehicle’s windscreens while demanding repayment of her Shs3.5m,” Omuka said. It had been part of the Shs5m she got after selling her land and Mudokoyi was to keep the money for her. When she didn’t see him, she sent the money through the driver who it seems never delivered it to the MP. Mudokoyi spoke to his stepmother while far and promised to pick the money when he returns. All this was in the hearing of Bumba who later relayed everything to Sabano and demanded the money for delivery to his boss. On picking the money, Bumba the driver instead went to Mbale where he disappeared and gave his boss’ vehicle to someone else to return it to the MP. He had left the MP in a burial. What bothered Sabano was being told by Mudokoyi he hadn’t received the money and Bumba made things even worse by switching off his phone. Sabano became so disturbed and even filed a case of theft at Kabwangasi Police Station, a thing that greatly scared Mudukoyi. He has since pleaded with her to forget about the driver and give him some time to refund the Shs3.5m once his April salary comes. Family members have since convinced Sabano to go slow on the matter because talking too much can cause Mukudoyi big credibility problems with the voters. In a family meeting, Mukudoyi was advised not to be angry with Sabano because what his driver did was provocative and very unfair. Sabano has since reported herself to Kabwangasi police with the axe she used to smash the MP’s vehicle. Butebo area DPC Twaha Buyinza tells Mulengera news that the incident indeed happened and investigations are ongoing. “We detained Sabano but later released her for smashing the MP’s car. The release came after the MP himself intervened suggesting that we release her on police bond since she is a family member,” Twaha Buyinza says. Mukudoyi too owned up saying: “The problem was with my driver [Bumba] who made it worse by taking her to Mbale in order to be paid back. But upon reaching there, he directed her to order for lunch which he even failed to pay and vanished leaving her very stranded with unpaid bills. This angered her even more.”
