Brian Atuheire, a public-spirited Ugandan who is also a Makerere student, has commenced civil proceedings aimed at forcing Sam Kutesa out of office because of the $0.5m sweetener he is alleged to have received from a Chinese lobbyist Patrick Ho. In his public interest litigation case, filed as Miscellanous cause number 377 of 2018, Atuheire implores court to declare Kutesa unfil to remain MP and Minister because of the alleged bribe. He also sues the AG for doing nothing to enforce clear legal provisions and failing to prompt the DPP to commence criminal proceedings. Atuheire avers that the President’s Monday 10th December statement that SK told him he got the money as a gift for charity all show the veteran politician’s culpability because there is record that he declared the cash to the IGG anywhere as required by law. He insists court must declare SK unfit and proceed to direct his removal from office of both Mawogola MP and Minister Foreign Affairs.
