Gen Museveni has defended the right of his son CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba to use his X handle and rant about whatever he feels like.
The President says that suppressing a child not to freely express him or herself, and be open about stuff he is passionate about, isn’t a good thing because it would amount to suppressing that individual’s free speech, freedom of thought and freedom of expression.
Museveni says it’s easy for anyone to know what Gen MK, who describes as a broad-minded person, is passionate about because his views on virtually everything are out there in the public and are always stated in black & white. Museveni adds that it’s now clear to the world that his son is passionate about many things including the Ethiopian-Tigrean issues.
The veteran leader from Rwakitura says that the only regrettable part is that his son doesn’t read through and edit his tweets before putting them out there. He reveals that the tweets about Tigre angered the Ethiopian Prime Minister and caused some problems which would have been avoided if Gen MK had taken seriously President Paul Kagame’s advice to edit his tweets more.
That notwithstanding, Museveni says that MK’s tweets are not as dangerous and detrimental to society and to the ordinary people like other leaders whose passion lies elsewhere in things like promoting tribalism and stealing public funds.
That Gen MK’s passions, as revealed in his tweets, are still okay and acceptable when compared to other leaders whose passion is in being lazy and craving for “easy luxurious life.” Museveni adds that “my son’s tweets” is something he has also had discussions about with President Paul Kagama of Rwanda who Gen MK always fondly refers to as “my uncle.”
