Majan Police post in Amach Sub County in Lango has had one of its senior police officers Haggard Okidi arrested after notorious robbers previously arrested implicated him saying he is their patron. He has been the OC CIID for Majan police post. He is being detained at Lira police for conniving with criminals to terrorize residents. According to URN, Okidi was arrested on Monday following a confession by Solomon Ogwok, a robbery suspect indicating that Okidi is part of their network. Ogwok was picked up in connection to a robbery in Majan trading center. He is said to have stolen assorted merchandise belonging to Okeng Otim, a local trader in Majan trading center valued at about Shs10m. Sam Okello, a resident of the trading center says the implicated officer has for long been part of a criminal group and connived with revenue collectors to cheat them. Okidi has since denied being part of a criminal gang.
Bosco Opio, another resident accuses the officer in charge of Majan Police Post, Joseph Atepo of protecting suspected criminals in the area, a claim the officer disputes. Opio asked the Lira District Security Committee led by RDC Milton Odongo to consider removing current police officers manning Majan Police Post since they have become part of insecurity in the area. Odongo said he was yet to receive the petition but pledged to investigate the accusation and act accordingly. The new IGP Okoth Ochora’s reign continues to be praised for working hard to aid the President’s efforts to rid the force of Kawukuumi-infested officers.
