A group of opposition politicians operating under what they call DP Bloc aka People Power (and are allied to PDP President Dr. Abed Bwanika) have come out to vehemently defend DP President Norbert Mao while pouring lots of scorn on Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi who they say they are going to discipline thoroughly. The reclusive Butambala MP caused trouble to himself early in the week when he claimed Mao had been facilitated with Shs6bn to announce his 2021 Presidential bid (not to win but) to frustrate Bobi Wine’s candidature. Muwanga has since suffered terrible attack including from Mao who says he is too small for him to fight with. The Bwanika group, which only reconciled with Mao recently after he had suspended their reunion meetings following the Masaka fiasco, have vowed to teach Muwanga a lesson he will never forget.
According to Henry Lubowa, who is like the defacto social media manager for the DP Bloc, Muwanga’s outbursts are irresponsible on top of being motivated by “blackmail, ignorance and selfishness.” He says: “The block is resolved to deal with Hon Muwanga’s blackmail tendencies in the strongest terms possible.” He accuses Muwanga of engaging into “baseless and unfounded propaganda” against Mao who the Bwanika group is very prepared to go down defending against any hostile attacks. “Muwanga must tell us his intentions,” Lubowa says of the MP who he previously claimed was bashing Mao because he wants to become the next President General of DP. He says a lot of painful efforts have been invested in the “one to one strategy” and Muwanga will heavily pay for disorganizing the same. He wonders how a senior leader like Muwanga, who is also a member of the DP Parliamentary Group, can fail to grasp basic things regarding the strategy uniting DP Bloc and Bobi’s People Power. He questions which books the MP reads if he reads at all. As if to belittle Muwanga’s relevance in the Bobi Wine Movement, Lubowa says: “Muwanga has attempted a selfish line. How much can he commit People Power on issues of framework? Ring fencing Parliamentarians cannot be our drive. We resolved [presidential] power is our target. We take Hon Muwanga’s episodes as selfish and we shall ask if he wants to continue that way.” This feuding might leave the Bwanika DP Bloc Group members with no option but to field a candidate against Muwanga Kivumbi like they have already vowed to do with Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Mukono Municipality’s Betty Nambooze. In fact, some of the Bwanika group members like Maxensia Nakibuuka have taken to social media arguing its high time some other DP member is identified in Butambala to take on Muwanga in 2021. Ironically, Muwanga has been the chairman of the team that Mao had charged with organizing UYD/DP reunion activities. At the last Tuesday press conference, Mao disputed Muwanga’s credentials as DP Chairman Butambala wondering why he wasn’t ensuring many more DP candidates get elected to win seats like he himself has been doing since 2012. This perceived incompetence could be used as ground to oust Muwanga from being top DP leader in Butambala just like Mukono Mayor George Kagimu is being used to eclipse Nambooze who is credited for revitalizing DP in that town from the obscurity in which it had sunk.
