Using a court order and court bailiffs (of Mutesasira Associates), Minister Balaam Barugahara has become the owner of part of the BMK estate. He is particularly moving to have a huge apartment block located along Plot 46 Mulamula road in Buziga sold off via public auctioning to enable him recover Shs1bn which one of BMK’s sons (Haruna Kalule Muwanga) borrowed from some years ago.
What originally was Shs1bn has accumulated and grown to Shs1,592,332,00/= which Balaam says Haruna has failed or refused to pay despite efforts to engage the family. Balaam says he understands the pain the family and BMK’s friends must be feeling right now but there is nothing to do because as a businessman, he also struggles to get the money-implying there is no way he can forgive the family.
Armed with a court order authorizing him to sell off the Buziga apartments block for recovery of the money he lent to the family, Balaam says that he ought to be appreciated by the public and all stakeholders involved for the patience with which he has acted about this matter.
That for months, he tried peaceful negotiations without escalating matters to involve the Court bailiffs but Haruna, the borrower, wasn’t adequately cooperating. He thanks his lawyer Owen Kusasira for the decency with which he has approached the matter thus far.
The BMK family has 30 days to raise the money before the actual auction takes place and Balaam says that once they do that, he can back off and save their Buziga apartment which is at the risk of being auctioned and sold off.
