The recently held NRM primaries delivered Nawira Nalubowa Kavuma as the ruling party’s frag bearer for Kasanda woman MP seat. It’s a newly created district expected to take effect next Financial Year. Because of its proximity to Kampala and politically charged Mityana, Kasanda has also excited the Bobi Wine camp from which two ladies have emerged eying the same. These are Omulongo Babirye Zaninka and Flavia Kalule Nabagabe. We exclusively published their story and the conflict desire to monopolize the PP flag has generated between them. To become the NRM flag bearer, 25 year old Nalubowa had to overcome several others in primary elections including Jane Nantongo who is vying as independent.

The fresh Makerere Bachelor of Statistics graduate (completed in January 2018) enjoys strong backing of Kasanda South MP Simeo Nsubuga, Ag Kasanda LC5 Chairman Ziada Kalema and KCCA State Minister Benny Namugwanya Bugembe who currently is Greater Mubende’s most powerful political figure. On being declared winner, Nawira vowed to deliver the trophy for the NRM party largely riding on her deep roots in Kasanda. Her father Mzee Kavuma is a local tycoon in Mubende town and has always been a leading NRM mobilizer. Currently in self-employment, Nawira went to Kiganda Standard Primary School and Kiganda High School (all in Kasanda) for her 6 years of secondary education. She is counting on her philanthropy activities of extending goodies to the community to cruise to victory. Nawira, who has succeeded convincing all the other primary losers to rally behind her with exception of Jane Nantongo, denies claims that she is a proxy being fronted by her wealthy dad. She says she has always been in leadership since her primary school days and is confident the sharp divisions between the two PP ladies will gift her with a clear victory come polling day. “I’m also counting on the fact that even my opponents admit that Kasanda is an NRM stronghold with my party enjoying over 90% support,” she told Mulengera news during a recent interview.
