Damiano Akuze, the Kamuli witchdoctor, who had dragged Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to court accusing her of using his juju services without making full payment, has cracked and withdrawn the case with an unequivocal apology. In his 7th March letter, Akuze says he has realized the case was unnecessary as it risks discrediting the image and reputation that Kadaga has built over the years while giving distinguished service to Uganda and the world at large. Specifically exonerating his lawyer Ivan Geoffrey Mangeni, Akuze says he wasn’t coerced, influenced nor funded by anyone to file civil suit No. 08 of 2019 against Kadaga in the High Court Jinja. “I will not at any time make such allegations on the person of the Speaker [again].

I take responsibility for my unreasonable action and I really regret the same. I’m really sorry mama. Please find it in your heart to forgive me,” Akuze says in the one page letter copied to Jinja Resident Judge, DPC Kamuli and area LCI Chairman. The letter is duly received by some of the offices copied including that of the Resident Judge. He has also separately written to court officially communicating withdraw of the suit against Kadaga. It’s not readily clear how Kadaga, who a few days ago recruited excellent veteran journalist Sam Obbo to serve as her Press Secretary, will be responding to the apology by Mr. Akuze whose earlier suit caused friction between her and major media establishments including Daily Monitor which suffered administrative sanction and reprimand by regulator Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
