Hardly a month after NRM endorsed President Museveni as its sole candidate, FDC supporters in Kaliro district have appealed to decision makers in the party to accept and make sure Besigye appears on the ballot paper come 2021. During a brief meeting with FDC party officials in the area, voters revealed that they still believe that

Dr. Besigye remains strong enough to oust President Museveni in any election environment because Museveni has been weakened by own actions. Besigye was in Kaliro district yesterday where he spent a day in cat and mouse games with police that chased him from one venue to another. Dr. Besigye (referred to as people’s President) and his people’s government officials had an unusual welcome in Kaliro where they had gone to prepare political ground for 2019 season by both the police and his supporters. While the supporters led him to inspect different places including Nawampiti landing site claimed to have been assailed by a dangerous weed, Police advised them not to hold any assembly there.

The defiant Besigye went ahead to address the crowd at Nawampiti landing site play ground where he told people to prepare themselves for change and also warned security agencies especially Police, which he says has sufficiently discredited themselves to desist from harassing, attacking and killing innocent and armed people. From Nawampiti where he his address was cut short by the police that dispersed his supporters and confiscated his microphone, they decided to move to Bulumba Town Council and later to Lugonyera were unable because of the heavy deployment by police. In Kaliro town Besigye who was accompanied by FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Wafula Ogutu the Minister for Presidency and Harriet Nanganga a representative of people’s assembly in Kaliro was asked to sacrifice again and compete for presidency. The voters pleaded that if it’s possible the FDC should let Besigye hold the party flag without going through elections because he is the only one they believe in to get Museveni out state house. In the same development, a section of FDC youths have said that they don’t regret FDC party President Amuriat Oboi being out of parliament today, saying that being an honorable wouldn’t allow him to be on frontlines with police officers in the field. The FDC youths also say that Amuriat is always available whenever the FDC officials are troubled which has given a backup and reinforcement to Ingrid Turinawe.
