We all know Masaka Woman MP Mary Babirye Kabanda to be a charitable modestly wealthy woman operating some basic businesses in Masaka town. Generally speaking, she is known to (through her Babirye Kabanda Development Foundation) have capabilities to support women and youths’ groups in her area of jurisdiction as MP but that her capacity has now grown to the level of doing charity in nearby districts is something that deserves commentary.

On Friday, Kabanda (who is Treasurer General for DP a party said to be operating on a Shs5bn budget for its ongoing political activities) showed she is way above other greater Masaka leaders like VP Sekandi when she drove to Mutukula and donated Shs240,395,686 to Mutukula Primary School in Kyotera district.

This is far away from her Masaka district which she heads as MP but gratefully, Kyotera is represented by Robinah Sentongo who is her fellow DP and close confidant.
We are certain that (in this era when leaders like MPs themselves are struggling to do basic things such as fueling one’s own car), raising Shs240m and freely give it away just like that isn’t something many MPs (even ministers) can afford doing moreover outside one’s own constituency.

According to the organizers, the recipient school management is going to use the money to erect a 7-classroom block as they pray for mystery philanthropist Mary Babirye Kabanda’s long life and prolonged stay in politics. (For comments, email us at mulengera2040@gmail.com).
