The president Gen. of opposition JEEMA political party, Mr. Asuman Basalirwa, has appreciated the political initiatives such as FDC’s people’s assembly that are aimed at democratic change. Basalirwa states that: “JEEMA welcomes and appreciates different political actors, players and formations aimed at facilitating democratic change in Uganda, such as People’s cabinet, People Power, and DP Reunion.” He adds that these initiatives must be viewed as complementary and not antagonistic as political space is considered to be big enough to accommodate any emerging political force or formation.
JEEMA further believe that an appropriate time is now for all efforts and resources to be marshaled towards a joint and collective force especially on electoral processes. “We recognize that everybody has a role to play in the current political dispensation, and we therefore call upon all political actors and players to respect each other and exercise restraint even in the most provocative or tense situations,” Said Basalirwa.
WATERMELON VS PUMPKIN.
The Bugiri Municipality legislator said that, the recent clash between DP president Norbert Mao and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Namboze to extent of name calling was uncalled for. Recently, DP’s Mao referred to Namboze and Elias Lukwago as watermelons for their inclusion gin FDC’s People’s Assembly while the duo fired back calling him a pumpkin alleging that he is in bed with NRM. This has been condemned by different political actors saying that it frustrates efforts of emerging initiatives. Basalirwa had to say that: “Name calling at this time is unnecessary and uncalled for. We can disagree but in a respectable and respectful manner. We should also prevail over our cadres and surrogates to exercise restraint and avoid engaging in what appears to be proxy wars of leaders.” He revealed having taken the initiative to cause a meeting of the different political actors and players to chart a way forward and minimize the unnecessary tension and confrontation, which he hopes may come with new modus operandi to direct all political forces and energies at weakening or probably dislodging the regime before 2021.
