I MUST B’ME PRESIDENT OF UGANDA OR DIE TRYING, DEFIANTLY SAYS DP’S MAO

By Simon Turibamwe

DP President General Norbert Mao used the party’s weekly press conference on Tuesday to emphasize that it’s his right to stand for President of Uganda and that when he chooses to nobody will stop him.

Mao, who was on Monday accused by Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi of being a proxy candidate President Museveni wants to use to spoil things for Bobi Wine in 2021, angrily told reporters: “I must become President of Uganda or die trying.” Mao added that becoming President of Uganda is something he has been working for since his days as an O’level student at Namilyango College. Mao, who had earlier bashed the Butambala MP branding him not good enough to question his credentials, asserted his right to run for Presidency in 2021 after reporters squeezed him insisting that he clearly states whether he will be on the ballot paper or not. The DP boss explained that the moment he bounces back as party leader, then he will naturally be obliged to stand for President subject to the ongoing negotiations aimed at fielding one joint opposition candidate to face Museveni. He said he is open to participating in discussions aimed at choosing one best candidate between him, Besigye, Bobi Wine and Gen Mugisha Muntu. Saying that the three are colleagues with whom he has no problem discussing the joint bid, Mao revealed how he recently travelled to Ghana where he discussed the same with Gen Mugisha Muntu.

Mao used the same press conference to question the credentials of Muwanga Kivumbi who is understood to be among those eying his seat as DP leader. He said that the Butambala experience had exposed Kivumbi’s inadequacies as a leader. He said Kivumbi is the DP chairman for Butambala but even that small office is proving too big for him. “He chairs the party in his district but can’t even recruit new members and instead it has had to be other people who don’t come from Butambala to recruit leaders for us including the two councilors we have there. That’s the reason I have no apologies for branding him a meal card politician just waiting on Bobi Wine to secure his own re-election as MP,” Mao said showing his total contempt for Muwanga Kivumbi. He revealed he was initially pondering dragging Kivumbi to court for defamation but later abandoned the idea after realizing that the Butambala leader is nothing but a naturally stupid politician.
