Former Minister Daudi Migereko has refuted reports that he has commenced early campaigns seeking to reclaim his Butembe County MP Seat come 2021. Initial reports had indicated that Migereko addressed mourners that Friday the Constitutional Court nullified the MPs’ bid to serve for seven supposed to be five years-and declared his ambition. It was claimed that Migereko addressed mourners at Mr. Lwabega’s burial in Buwenga and showed excitement at the rulingand promised chairs and tents in the same speech.
However, when reached via telephone link, Migereko told this news website “nothing could be further from the truth.” He said he is very busy contributing to national building from the private sector where he is participating in commercial farming and tourism efforts. “Butembe has an MP who was duly elected and we must all give him the necessary support to do his work. Our people should be encouraged to make use of him and as for me right now I’m busy with private sector efforts. We need to grow up as a country and realize that you can actually serve your country because all of us can’t be MPs. There can only be one MP at a time and it’s not my approach to antagonize leaders people have elected. The late [entrepreneur James] Mulwana contributed immensely yet he wasn’t in Parliament or any other government position,” the former minister explained. He said having concluded the 2016 election cycle, now is time to work as opposed to engaging in premature policking. Speaking specifically about that particular funeral, Migereko said it was raining heavily that Friday and there was no time to make such speeches even if he intended to make any because everybody was rushing to escape the heavy down pour that suddenly caught up with the function. “In fact I was hurrying to go for another burial and it’s not true that I made such remarks,” he concluded. The incumbent MP is Nelson Lufafa who took the job after overcoming Migereko in NRM primaries and FDC’s Grace Kiirya in the general elections.
