Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake has said he is a sacrifice in Uganda’s fight for political change, insisting that he has endured pain and suffering for the cause.
Speaking on National Television recently, Zaake argued that while many shy away from the struggle, he has remained firm despite facing torture and physical attacks.
“I am a sacrifice to the struggle, and that is what most people lack,” Zaake said, adding that no amount of intimidation will make him back down.
The MP dismissed claims that he is always the troublemaker, pointing out that he has been a victim rather than an aggressor. He reminded Ugandans that in 2017, it was General Katumba Wamala who assaulted him, not the other way around.
“When I joined Parliament, did I attack General Katumba, or was it he who attacked me?” he asked.
More recently, Kilak North MP Anthony Akol punched him inside Parliament, an incident that sparked widespread debate. Zaake argued that instead of blaming him, Ugandans should question why senior leaders resort to violence.
Zaake also recalled the 2018 Arua incident, where he was severely beaten by security forces, and the torture he endured during the Covid-19 lockdown. He noted that some of the soldiers responsible for his suffering were later sanctioned by the U.S. government.
[A leopard does not change its spots]. “Those in power keep using violence against us, yet we are the ones accused of lacking discipline”
Zaake insisted that Uganda as a nation is the one lacking decorum, not him. He argued that those fighting for justice should not be blamed for the disorder in the country.
[The hunter’s dog may bark all night, but it is the hunter who gives the orders]. “Those who rule must be held accountable for the chaos, not the people demanding justice,” the lion of Mityana urged.
