The problems for ICT State Minister Aida Nantaba deepened last night with sections of Kayunga political leaders demanding that Parliament forces her out of office as investigations continue just like was the case with former labour Minister Hebert Kabafunzaki. For many of the Kayunga leaders, this is an opportunity to dance on the political grave of Nantaba because she has lately been fighting them. Her political problems started recently when Nantaba ran broke as a result of people suing her personally for the many mistakes she made while serving as Minister of lands including illegally cancelling their land titles. At some point, some of her creditors went as far as attaching her salary to recover the damages awarded by court. In the process, Nantaba became scarce amidst increasing demands for financial assistance by her voters. That’s how she started falling out with local councilors and Sub County chairpersons that had previously supported her.
GETTING PARANOID
As if to have premonition regarding the weekend events that saw Police kill biker Ronald Sebulime, Nantaba had days prior resorted to acting in very strange ways. She for instance had four days earlier fired her official driver Isaac Bossa accusing him of disloyalty. This was after Bossa went to attend the NRM meeting that planned the President’s Busana visit and didn’t come back as fast as she expected. Busana is where Isimba dam which the President commissioned last week is located. Having her driver (who by the way is her nephew), Nantaba resorted to driving herself around and this something that brought her multiple complications including being stressed and paranoid given her busy schedule as Minister and MP. The knifing of Bossa is something her brother (MP) Amos Lugolobi strongly protested and advised Nantaba against on grounds it wasn’t good strategy to fall out with so many people on the eve of a complicated election like the 2021 is threatening to be. Before that, Nantaba had badly fallen out with the leaders of Ndeeba-Bukoloto SDA church after her supporters stormed the place and violently destroyed the public address system which her rival Moses Karangwa had donated for them. She justified this by saying it was abominable for a none believer to make such a donation. When elders protested her acts, Nantaba said they can’t criticize her because she made a very big contribution for the purchase of the land and construction of the church. SDA Christians at this church which is near her home reacted by abandoning Ndeeba to begin praying at another SDA church located at Ntooke, leaving the Ndeeba Church to her alone. All this has left her in a very paranoid state. On the Busana-Isimba event itself, Nantaba became more stressed because of the way organizers belittled her. They made sure only four speeches were made one by Eng. Badru Kigundu, Minister Muloni, the President and the contractor’s representative. She being area MP wanted to be one of the speakers which organizers refused something that emboldened women who are eying her seat. She was only introduced and as she waved, the crowd of her own voters instead heckled her. In contrast, Kayunga NRM chairman Karangwa (who Nantaba hates) was cheered as he arrived. As the President left, women in the audience (most likely mobilized by those eying her seat) attacked Nantaba and she had to leave the venue through the back door. And on reaching home she started calling her diehard supporters claiming her political opponents were plotting to kill her. When she returned home, she locked herself in her house in a very paranoid way. In the morning she rang Police and a patrol truck pulled up at her Ndeeba-Bukoloto home. The same was repeated that fateful Sunday when Sebulime met his creator at the instigation of Nantaba who falsely reported to Police that a man riding on a huge motorcycle was after her life. Her critics in Kayunga district are now wondering why she skipped three other Police stations between Sezibwa and Nagalama if she indeed felt deeply in danger.
