The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd has officially handed over the newly rehabilitated Nyamasoga–Katooke Road to leaders and residents of Hoima District.
The 7.5-kilometre marram road, constructed under EACOP’s Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme, links Kayera and Katooke villages in Buseruka Sub-County. The area is home to about 6,500 residents in more than 600 households.
The road connects to the Kaiso-Tonya Highway and provides easier access to key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka. Residents are also expected to benefit from improved access to schools, health facilities and local markets.
The road was previously in poor condition and often impassable, limiting transport and trade in the area. District leaders had submitted the need for its rehabilitation to improve mobility and support economic activity.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held at Katooke Trading Centre on February 26, 2026, the Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd, Mr JB Habumugisha, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting communities along the pipeline route.
“EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities.”
Hoima Resident District Commissioner Rodgers Mbabazi welcomed the development and thanked EACOP for working closely with local authorities to improve infrastructure in the district. He noted that such partnerships are key to boosting local development and improving the quality of life for residents.
The road was officially handed over to the RDC in a ceremony attended by local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer and members of the community.
EACOP says the project is part of its broader efforts to invest in infrastructure and community development in districts along the crude oil pipeline route.
